The Hakka language

Origins

The Hakka people are known as the "Guest People". Originally from northern China, they migrated to the south of China and from there onward to other parts of Asia.

Many of the older generation can speak Hakka, but have not passed on their language skills to the younger generation. Hakka phrasebook aims to teach commonly used phrases and words to people interested in learning Hakka.

Using the phrasebook

The Hakka app contains over 200 common words and phrases, grouped into a number of categories. Each page for a word or phrase contains the anglicised version, the meaning and a way of playing the pronunication.
